GRAND OPENING
QUEENS MEDALLION BROKERAGE AND LEASING OF LONG ISLAND CITY

On Friday, May 16, 2008 Queens Medallion Leasing/Brokerage of Long Island City, NY hosted an Open House for the Grand Opening of their new building on 21-03 44th Avenue. Present were industry leaders and the Chairman and Assistant Chairman of the NYC Taxi Limousine Commission.

In 1973, the person we have come to know as Tony of Queens Leasing went to Xavier College in Cincinnati, Ohio, a College known throughout the world for its superior basketball teams. Tony returned to New York City to begin a career in the NYC Taxi Industry. His partner, Billy, decided that his 7 month visit to Minnesota was long enough and he too returned to NYC and began to drive a yellow taxi. They met in 1983 while driving their cabs, decided to share an apartment in Astoria, Queens and formed a lasting friendship.

As they were both Greek immigrants they had much in common and their mutual interests grew very quickly. Tony met his wife in 1986 and decided to marry in 1988. While attending Tony's wedding Billy met Tony's new bride's first cousin and eventually married her. Though not yet formed, Queens Medallion Brokerage and Leasing quickly became a family business.

In April of 1991 Queens Leasing began with nine vehicles. It now manages over 400 vehicles. As Commissioner Daus indicated at the opening of the new Queens Medallion Brokerage and Leasing Headquarters Building at 21-03 44th Ave in Long Island City, Tony and Billy are great examples of the many opportunities available to members of the NYC Taxi Industry.

Billy indicated that the industry has evolved considerably since he began in the business 25 years ago. They desperately needed a new facility that could accommodate the increasing needs of their clients and employees. Queens Leasing has grown and now shares its headquarters with a second corporation, Queens Brokerage which manages insurance, financing and other client needs, a one stop taxi service center, one of the largest, comprehensive and professional taxi institutions in New York City.
